Nahlsgen: Cellular Skin Renewal Science from Japan

A Scientific Collaboration That Changes the Future of Skincare

Nahlsgen was discovered through a collaboration between Graduate School of Human Life Science, Osaka City University and Chemical Laboratory, Graduate School of Engineering, Kyoto University

in AD 2012 The scientists discovered a new synthetic molecule that effectively activates the skin’s intrinsic regeneration power at the cellular level. This was the starting point of an innovation that was later patented and used in premium products worldwide.

The discovery aimed to address a key problem of age-related skin cell decline. Researchers found that, with age, fibroblasts produce less of key proteins such as collagen (Collagen), elastin (Elastin) and HSP47 , a protein that controls collagen quality. The result is skin that loses elasticity, develops wrinkles and has a weaker barrier. Nahlsgen was developed as a synthetic molecule that can “reactivate skin cells to work like younger skin” without causing irritation or side effects.
